July 2012 Review + PICKS: Free Downloads Of The Month

At the end of each month I’ll give a quick rundown of all the free music downloads that were added to QueepOrganic.com during that month, plus I’ll be passing on any useful information, updates and news which is related to the site.

I’ll also be picking out 3 featured free downloads (tracks and/or dj mixes), as my top picks for the month – the mp3s which are most likely to remain in my own personal player for the foreseeable future!

I may have spent most of the month basically setting up the website and testing it out properly – in reality I’m still doing that to some degree – but we have kicked off nicely with some quality artists and releases. Since going live on the 20th of July, we’ve been treated to free track downloads from Juice Rap News, Urban Response, Kishi Bashi, Hatstandy Andy and Bear Hands, plus a dj mix from Audio Junkies. And I’ve got tons of stuff lined up for the month ahead, so make sure you stay tuned!

JULY 2012 PICKS: Free Downloads Of The Month

The 151a album by Kishi Bashi will remain etched in my memory, and lodged in my player, for some time. It may turn out to be one of my favourite albums to ever review on this website, that’s how awesome I think it is! This particular tune – Bright Whites – is such a breath of fresh air, the kind of track you want to listen to when getting out of bed in the morning. The entire album, overall, is alt-pop with folk, electronic and Japanese influences, and much more besides. The full review and 2 free mp3s are here.

Kishi Bashi - Bright Whites

My second pick for the month has to be this beauty by Bear Hands. It’s part of a 3 track EP which was presented to America on July the 4th, as a present, but also as a wake-up call. This track deals with the African question which will not go away, and the other 2 tracks deal with US foreign policy and the New Orleans flood aftermath. These guys have created something amazing musically, with a serious message. It’s a pity that more artists wouldn’t use their music in this way too! You can read the review and download the entire EP here.

Bear Hands - Bullshit Savoiur Complex

Finally, this dj set is something special. It’s mixed beautifully, uses mainly Audio Junkies’ own tunes, and kicks very nicely. A blend of deep progressive house, with some tech-house touches, these guys show why they are thought of as one of the best production combo’s on the global progressive house scene. One of the main highlights of this mix is the use of a Michael Jackson acapella towards the end. Read the review and full tracklisting here.
